Cultural Clubs and Organizations

African and Latino Alliance of Students: ALAS promotes cultural, social, and political awareness of African, Latino and multicultural issues to the campus community.

Asian Student Union: ASU's goal is to introduce Asian culture, allow students to experience diverse ethnic Asian Festivities, and discuss Asian issues with the college community. Through a variety of activities, the ASU seeks to constitute a vital Asian presence in Union College and the public community.

BSU (Black Student Union) The Black Student Union (BSU) was founded in the spring of 2005. The purpose of the Black Student Union at Union College is to enhance and solidify the diversity initiative on campus surrounding African American issues. The goals of this organization are to promote education on issues pertaining to black student life and black history through the use of campus wide events and discussions. The Black Student Union will work to enrich an already thriving college community full of diverse ideas, and it is in our vision that this group will leave a legacy behind for not just African American students, but for ALL students that will attend Union College thereafter.

CELA (Circulo Estudiantil Lationo Americano): An organization geared towards issues pertaining to currently matriculated students at Union College of Latin American descent. The mission of CELA is to enhance and increase the diversified atmosphere of the college community in order to properly represent Latin American cultures.

Classics Club: The Classics Club is designed for any student interested in, or wanting to learn about, Classical art, history, languages, etc. Club activities include yearly trips to major art museums and guest speakers.

French Club: This Club promotes the French language through weekly discussion tables as well as sponsoring films, trips, and French dinners.

German Club: An organization devoted to promoting opportunities for everyone interested in the German language and German culture. We offer a weekly lunch-time "German Table" and several informal social gatherings, discussions, films, and special events each term.

MECCA -- Middle Eastern Civilization and Culture Association MECCA is devoted to celebrating diversity and encouraging tolerance by introducing Middle-Eastern culture to the campus body. We hope to dispel stereotypes and assumptions held by many uninformed students and faculty concerning the Middle-East. We also intend to offer a unique perspective and education on a number of international and political issues, such as US foreign policy.

Shakti: To expand its goals of encouraging southeast Asian cultural awareness and education at Union College as well as provide on-campus and off-campus social alternatives available for all students.

Spanish Club: This organization promotes the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world through films, lectures, social gatherings, cooking classes, the weekly “Spanish Table,” and a diverse array of co-curricular activities, which allows faculty and students to interact, practice spoken Spanish and learn about Hispanic cultures in a relaxed atmosphere.

Spectrum The purpose of the alliance is to promote awareness, to educate the Union community and its members on concerns affecting the homosexual community and, most especially, to serve as a support network. Members' names are kept in strict confidence.

Womyn's Union: A student support and action group which facilitates campus-wide discourse on issues of import to women and organizes activities which address these issues.
