Union College owns and operates it's own phone system and provides all telephone and voicemail services to it's undergraduate students. These services are provided by the Telecommunications Office which is located in Old Chapel 2nd Floor, at 518-388-6411.

  • Each Resident Hall room has a 518-388-XXXX telephone number assigned to which residents can be called directly from the outside world. To find out your phone number, lift your receiver and press # * 113. It will say your phone number in your ear. There are no connection fees or monthly line charges. Students provide their own telephones. Each room has uninterrupted dialtone.

  • Each student is assigned his/her own private voicemail box for which there is no charge. Each student keeps the same voicemail box for his/her entire stay as an undergraduate. Each private mailbox is connected to the resident hall room telephone line in which the student lives so that callers who dial the room telephone number and get forwarded to voicemail can select the name of the person to whom they wish to leave a personal message. Students can retrieve their messages from any phone, on or off campus. Answering machines are therefore not needed.

  • The College provides campus and local call dialing privileges from each residence hall room at no charge. Students who would like to utilize the college's network to make direct dial long distance calls can sign up for a personal and confidential long distance 7-digit authorization code. There is no charge to have a personal long distance authorization code.

  • Students who request a long distance authorization code must sign a request form which states the terms and conditions of having a code. The person assigned the code is responsible for all calls made using the code, hence, we discourage students from sharing codes w/ roommates or friends.

  • Students are billed once a month, at the beginning of the month, for all calls made with the personal authorization code the prior month, plus and unpaid balance forward. There are no surcharges, taxes or late fees assessed on student phone bills. Telephone payments are made to the college c/o the Telecommunications Office or at the Cashier's Office. Students can access their bills via the web.

  • Failure to pay your telephone bill when due may result in loss of privileges in using the college's long distance service, inability to pre-register or receive grades/transcripts.

  • Union College's long distance domestic rates for 2002-2003 are $0.10 minute all day, every day.
The college passes along AT&T's international rates based on time of day less a 25% discount.

  • Students may use long distance calling cards, or make operator assisted or toll free calls from their rooms. Please be advised that the carriers providing these services can charge hefty surcharges.

  • Students are cautioned that they should never give their telephone numbers out when ordering any services, telephone related or otherwise, either over the phone or via the Internet. Students will be held financially responsible for charges billed to the college by companies providing such services.

  • Union College's Telecommunications system provides custom calling features to residence hall telephone lines at no charge: call waiting, last number redial, speed dial, transfer and conferencing.

  • The College provides and maintains outdoor and indoor Emergency and Courtesy Telephones, which are clearly marked. Courtesy telephones in the Reamer Campus Center allow long distance dialing with an authorization code.

  • Other services provided by the Telecommunications Office include a 'UFavorite Number' Dialing Plan (pick one number to get a rate of $0.05/minute for a $5/month fee), Pre-Paid Calling Cards, Gift Certificates, Pay Phones and a Public Fax Machine located in the Reamer Campus Center.

  • Data access from Residence Hall Rooms is provided and maintained by the Office of Information Technology Services, located in Steinmetz Hall, 518-388-6293.
