Office of the President
Welcome to Union College! I am delighted to be in my tenth year as president of this vibrant academic community.
This is an exciting time to be at Union. We’ve always been proud of our long history of defining – and continually redefining – the meaning of a liberal arts education, and the 21st century finds us at a key moment in that history. We are increasingly at the center of a conversation about what it means to be liberally educated today, and what kinds of skills are needed to prepare young women and men for a fast-paced, technologically complex, culturally diverse world. A Union education is designed to answer those questions.
Our focus at Union is on teaching students to think independently and critically while also preparing them to be effective members of a team; to connect ideas across disciplines and form enriching connections with the people and communities around them; and to act in ways that make meaningful contributions to society. Across all disciplines, Union students are posing the tough questions and pursuing the innovative solutions that will shape the future. In doing so, they follow in the footsteps of more than two centuries of illustrious alumni before them – inventors, Nobel Prize winners, scientists, governors, doctors, business leaders, and a U.S. president.
Whatever your interest in Union, I invite you to get to know our community. Talk to students and faculty. Tour our beautiful campus, the first in the nation designed from a comprehensive master plan. Learn what we value, what we celebrate, what makes a Union education special. We’d be delighted to share it with you.
