Chemistry Placement Exam

The Chemistry placement exam is now available. Read these directions before clicking on the link below.

  1. Once you choose to take the exam, the timer will start. You will have only ONE opportunity to take the exam, and you cannot reset the clock. Turn off other programs so you are not interrupted, especially instant messaging programs.
  2. In preparation for the exam have pens/pencils, paper, and a calculator with you. You may use these items, and ONLY these items while taking the exam.
  3. The time limit for the 32 question exam is 60 minutes.
  4. **You may access a periodic table at any time during the exam by clicking on the words "Link to File" associated with each question.
  5. You will need your Union College ID number (in the packet sent to you by the college).
    • **Note: the exam works best with Internet Explorer**
  6. To access the exam, go to http://online.union.edu and use the directions below to login and take the exam.
  7. Click on the login button.
  8. Each student has been assigned an account. To login, use the following information:
    1. Your USERNAME is the first seven letters of your last name (or fewer if your name is shorter than seven letters) + the first letter of your first name + the last 3 digits of your Union College ID number.
    2. Your PASSWORD is your Union College ID number.
    3. (For example, my name is Prof. Kristin Fox, my ID number is 9087371, my USERNAME is foxk371, my PASSWORD is 9087371.
  9. Enter these into the boxes provided, then press the login button.
  10. On the right-hand side of the page, under "My Courses", click on "Chemistry Placement Exam".
  11. On the page that comes up, click on the Placement Exam to go to the placement exam section of the site. Once there, click on the Chemistry Placement Exam link to begin the exam.

Remember, this is a placement exam. The purpose of it is to decide which course is most appropriate given your background. It is not expected that you will study for this exam or have the correct answer for every question.
