Research Interests:

Aerosols (suspended condensed matter) are implicated as having a negative impact on human health, as well as other undesirable phenomena such as reduced visibility in urban and rural areas. Aerosols are also active in the climate system and are the single largest source of uncertainty in projections of future climate in the latest intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.

In the Huisman lab, an ElectroDynamic Balance (EDB) is used to investigate the physical and chemical properties of a singe levitated aerosol particle. The multi-day timescale of experiments possible in the EDB allows us to investigate the physicochemical properties of aerosols under conditions relevant to the ambient atmosphere.
