Temple of Nike Apteros

Reproduction print from an Albumen silver print, 1882

This photograph is number 22 in the “Atene” album and it presents the first temple you come to after you climb through the Propylaia and enter the Acropolis.  Nike Apteros means “wingless victory” and refers to the statue of Nike which originally resided within the temple and which would not have been winged.
