View from the Nymphaeum
Reproduction print from an Albumen silver print, 1882
Photograph number 8 in the “Atene” album is distant view of the Acropolis in which much of the modern city of Athens is visible on the right. This inclusion of the modern was quite unlike the typical views composed for tourists – in which ancient sites were usually isolated in order to conform to the idea of a timeless monument, untouched and uncorrupted by the present.
