Parthenon from n.w.
Reproduction print from an Albumen silver print, 1882
Photograph number 27 in the “Atene” album is the first of twenty-six photographs depicting the Parthenon, the central and dominant building on the Acropolis. This view gives us not only the Western façade – it’s most intact – and the northern flank, but also a great deal of the open field around the building, which one would pass through upon approach. Included in the middle ground is a figure – one of few included in this second series of Acropolis photographs.
