Awards and Publications
The department prides itself on active research, writing, scholarship, and criticism. English department faculty often take advantage of internal resources in support of their work. The Blodgett Fund allots an annual amount to each department member for book purchases. Union College makes funds available for travel to conferences, either as a presenter or as an observer. Moreover, English department faculty are eligible to apply to Union's Humanities Faculty Development Fund, which offers a limited amount of grant money for faculty research projects. Faculty may also qualify for a Schiff Grant, awarded annually to a Union faculty member working on an interdisciplinary project. Senior faculty at Union are also eligible to apply for Mellon Grant funds.
Over the years, English department faculty members have also received major awards from external sources of funding, such as the American Council of Learned Societies, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Fulbright Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Huntington Library, the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts, among others.
