Teaching and Research Interests:
I teach Southeast Asian and South Asian histories, as well as thematic, transnational Asian history. Courses include Modern Southeast Asia, Modern South Asia, Empire in Asia, Islam in Southeast Asia, Chinese and Indian diasporas in Asia, Travel Writing in Colonial Asia, The Vietnam Wars, Food, Culture and Nationalism in Asia, and others. My research looks at the role of propaganda in the formation of national identity in the immediate post-independence years in Malaysia. Others research interests include ethnic conflict, media, comparative colonialism and food and identity.
