Requirements for the Public History Concentration
History majors may choose a five course Public History core for their major concentration. The following are the requirements for this five course core:
- HST 224 Introduction to Public History
- A History department-approved Public History internship (HST 224 as a pre-requisite)
- Two of the following:
- HST 118 Civil War and Reconstruction
- HST 226 A Novel View of U.S. History
- HST 227 Oral History
- HST 265 The Museum: Theory and Practice (same as ANT 265)
- HST 270 History of Latin American Popular Culture
- HST 277T Civil Rights Public History Miniterm
- HST 278T South Africa Miniterm
- HST 324 Race in American Memory
- HST 331 Representing America: United States History in Film
- HST 481 World War II in Asia
- One other relevant History course chosen from the previous list or in cooperation with Melinda Lawson
Requirements for the Public History Minor
Seven History courses or courses approved for Public History, including
- At least one 300-level History course
- HST 224 Introduction to Public History
- A History department-approved Public History internship (HST 224 as a pre-requisite)
- One of the following:
- HST 118 Civil War and Reconstruction
- HST 226 A Novel View of U.S. History
- HST 227 Oral History
- HST 265 The Museum: Theory and Practice (same as ANT 265)
- HST 270 History of Latin American Popular Culture
- HST 277T Civil Rights Public History Miniterm
- HST 278T South Africa Miniterm
- HST 324 Race in American Memory
- HST 331 Representing America: United States History in Film
- HST 481 World War II in Asia
- One other history course chosen from the previous list or one course drawn from the following:
- Any Art History Course
- AVA 262 Real and Recorded Time
- CSC 055 Working with the Web
- MLT 200 Modern Chinese Literature
- MLT 263 Nationalism and Empire: Russian Music and Art of the 19th Century
- MLT 339 The Shoah in Film: Cinematic Treatments of Holocaust Trauma and Memory (also GER 339)
- PSC 247 Politics and Film
- PSC 260 Policy Making and American Society
