Statement: "Receiving this award has affirmed and further motivated my study of French language and culture. Studying a language is so much more than pronunciation, grammar and sentence composition—it is a way of opening one’s mind to other cultures. Their mindsets, their habits, their manner of speaking—all of these aspects must first be understood in order to fully grasp another language. I am eager to participate in my term abroad precisely for these reasons. Writing and speaking in another language has been a passion of mine for quite some time, but actually being able to put these skills to use, as well as broadening my cultural horizons, will be the most rewarding part of all the efforts I have made up until this point."
