Statement: “Ever since I was in elementary school, I have wanted to learn how to speak Spanish. Although I wasn't quite sure why then, now I realize that being fluent in any language, especially Spanish, is crucial in our globalized world. There are so many more opportunities for affecting positive change if you are able to speak more than one language. When I learned of the William Cady Stone Fellowship, which will send me abroad for an academic year, I knew that this was my chance to become fluent in Spanish and really learn about another culture. Going to Ecuador next year will allow me to combine my passion for the environment and Latin American culture.”
