Philosophy Department Events and Activities
The Philosophy Department sponsors a number of events and activities of interest to the campus community and the broader community.
The Speakers Series is well-known and all talks are open to the public.
Philosophical Cafes are arranged every term consisting in a short talk by an invited speaker either from the Union College community or the wider community followed by a free-wheeling discussion and accompanied by good food; look for these events on the Campus calendar.
The Ethics Bowl sends our well-honed students to a national debate competition; Union College has cut a good figure in these moots. Stay tuned for a page describing the activities of the Ethics Bowl team.
The Spring Term Colloquium is becoming a tradition; last Spring it brought Bernard Boxill, Andrew Curran and Charles Mills to discuss the role the concept of race played in the European Enlightenment. Stay tuned for information about what is planned in Spring 2013-2014!
Although not directly allied to the Philosophy Department (it is not funded by the Department) in this context we should mention Ephemeris, the Undergraduate Journal of Philosophy, which is also well-known for publishing quality articles by undergraduates in philosophy from colleges and universities across the nation and the world.
