Physics & Astronomy: Society of Physics Students
The Society of Physics Students is a national organization (part of the American Institute of Physics), with chapters at many colleges and universities nationwide. Membership is open to any student interested in physics, not just physics majors, and offers numerous benefits, including membership in professional societies, subscriptions to journals, and eligibility for scholarships, internships, and grants offered by the national organization. SPS members are also eligible for induction into Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honor society.
The Union College chapter of SPS sponsors a large number of scial and academic activities every year, from an annual campus-wide SPS Photo Contest to social events such as the very popular World Year of Physics Poker Nights. The SPS advisor is Prof. Rebecca Surman, and the President of the Union chapter for 2005-6 is Matt Roginski '06.
