Applying for Financial Aid (New Students)

New Students

Merit Aid

  • Consists of scholarships valued between $4,000 and $15,000
  • All admitted students are considered for merit aid through the admissions process
  • No separate applications are required
  • Merit awards are offered to only a select few

Need-Based Aid

Deadlines

Early Decision I
Candidates should complete the Profile by November 15. The FAFSA should be filed by February 1.

Early Decision II
Candidates should complete the Profile by January 15. The FAFSA should be filed by February 1.

Regular Decision
Candidates should complete both the Profile and FAFSA by February 1.

Eight-Year Leadership in Medicine Program
Candidates should complete the Profile by December 1. 

Six-Year Law Program
Candidates should complete the Profile by January 1.

Please note that for students who enroll in the Fall 2013 class and have been offered need based aid, the Financial Aid Office will send notification in May requesting the following items:

  • Parents' 2012 IRS TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPTS (copies of taxes are no longer sufficient, per new federal regulations)
  • Copy of student and parent 2012 W-2s
  • Student's 2012 IRS TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPTS
  • 2013-2014 Verification Worksheet - Dependent Worksheet or Independent Worksheet (depending on your status)
  • New York residents only - Copy of Parents' 2012 NYS Tax Return

For families who have experienced a change in circumstances, you may submit the 2013-2014 Change in Family Circumstances Form.

New Canadian Students

Merit Aid

  • Scholarships valued between $4,000 and $15,000

Need-Based Aid

  • Indicate your intent to apply for financial aid on the admissions application
  • Using your best estimate of 2012 income, complete the 2013-2014 Canadian Financial Aid Application
  • Parent 2012 T-1 Income Tax and Benefit Returns
  • Parent T-4s
  • Student 2012 T-1 Income Tax and Benefit Return, if applicable
  • Student T-4, if applicable
  • Quebec Residents: Parent and, if applicable, student 2012 Quebec Income Tax Returns

For families who have experienced a change in circumstances, you may submit the 2013-2014 Change In Family Circumstances Form.

New International Students

Merit Aid

  • Scholarships valued at $10,000 per year
  • All admitted students are considered for merit aid through the admissions process
  • No separate applications are required
  • Merit awards are offered to only a select few

Need-Based Aid

  • Deadline: February 1, 2013
  • Indicate your intent to apply for financial aid on the admissions application
  • Complete the 2013-2014 CSS Profile
  • 2012 foreign income documentation (translated into US dollars) will be required from all enrolling international students in late spring.  It is not necessary to submit this information prior to being accepted.  Examples of income documentation are:
    1. The country's tax return, or
    2. Signed statement from your parent's employer(s) on the company's letterhead indicating annual wages, bonuses, benefits, subsidies, or perquisites.  The statement should indicate if the income is gross income (before taxes) in which case we need to know the taxes paid.
  • Important: Students applying from Benin, Cameroon, Cuba, Ghana, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Sudan, and Togo will not be able to complete the CSS profile. Instead, complete the 2013-2014 International Financial Aid Application.

    Please note: The 2013-2014 International Certification of Finances is not valid and acceptable when submitted electronically and is not required for financial aid consideration.  This will ONLY be required in late May from those students who have accepted our offer of admission.

    New Transfer Students

    Application Filing Dates – all of the above required applications must be filed by the dates below corresponding with the term of entry.

    Fall 2013 entry:            May 1, 2013
    Winter 2014 entry:       November 1, 2014
    Spring 2014 entry:       February 1, 2014
