As the Dean of First-Year Students, Dean Schurick works with first-year students on a variety of issues including academic, personal, and social concerns. She is responsible for the Orientation program in the fall and meeting with new students who join the College community at the beginning of winter and spring terms.

During your first year of college, you will be exposed to many new ideas and concepts and experience a great deal of freedom and independence. Some of you will be quick to embrace new experiences and your new-found freedoms. Others will be more reticent and explore a little more cautiously. You will meet new friends and develop relationships with your professors and various staff and administrators. There are many sources of support available to you on campus. We have a rich community with people who are excited to work with you to make your experience at Union an enjoyable one.

We welcome you as a member of the Union Community and encourage you to take advantage of as many of the intellectual, cultural, and social opportunities as you can. If you have a question, or need clarification on an issue, please feel free to contact Dean Schurick. She may not have all the answers but will be more than willing to talk with you and work with you to figure out the best way to handle your situation.
