FT2008 will convene in Anchorage and the location will be a wonderful backdrop to the meeting as well as a starting point for exciting field trips. The mid-meeting field trip will be to Seward, Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula. An optional pre-meeting trip will travel to see the spectacular geology around Denali National Park. In Anchorage we will visit the Native Heritage Center and Earthquake Park.

The 11th International Conference on thermochronometry will be held from 15-19 September 2008 in Anchorage, Alaska. The venue is The Hotel Captain Cook in downtown Anchorage.

This meeting will focus on the theory and application of fission track, helium, and argon dating. This is an exciting time in low-temperature thermochronometry because of the explosion of helium dating and how it has integrated with well-established fission track thermochronology. In addition, the rapid development of analytical equipment and technical approach is transforming the discipline by increasing precision and throughput.

We anticipate that the following broad areas will be the scientific focus of the meeting:

1) New analytical developments in helium dating and fission-track analysis
2) Thermochronology of orogenic belts
3) Detrital thermochronology, provenance, and basin analysis
4) Thermochronology of sedimentary basins
5) Kinetics and thermal modeling
6) The thermotectonic framework of Alaska and adjacent areas.

The meeting will also include sessions for the the IGCP workshop "Low-temperature thermochronology: applications and inter-laboratory calibration"

During the meeting there will be a one day trip to Seward Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula to see the Chugach terrane, Exit glacier, and the stunning scenery in Prince William Sound. This field trip will include a 3 hour cruise in the Kenai fjords to see wildlife, glaciers, and the scenery in this spectacular landscape. Prior toFT2008 there will be an optional 3 day trip to Denali National Park that will visit the the Denali Fault, exhumed rocks along that fault, and the sedimentary record of exhumation.

Get ready for crisp clean Alaskan air, and beautiful fall colors: this is one of the most beautiful times to visit Alaska. The silver salmon will be running so bring your fishing rod!
