Walter Hatke's paintings combine
a feeling of timelessness with an element of
narrative, resulting in work with a remarkable
presence and a powerful resonance that invites a
viewer to delve deeply, to return repeatedly.
These works encompass both interior and exterior
scenes. Their intricate formal balances result
in delicately idealized compositions of
exquisite harmony.
A full-color catalogue accompanies the exhibition, and also features a suite
of poems written in response to Hatke's work by faculty member and award-winning
poet Jordan Smith.
