Transcendence, the Union College Senior Exhibition, represents the culmination of the Art Major's experience at this small, liberal arts college. During the spring term, each student presents a solo exhibition at the Atrium Gallery in the Arts Building. However, Transcendence, allows the students to look back over their careers at Union College and achieve a collective closure to their shared art experience. This exhibition also allows us to view each student's work within the context of the graduating group as a whole.

There is a wide mixture of media presented by this year's artists. Works range from etchings to oils to watercolors to photography. The diversity of this show reveals the opportunity for Art Majors to explore many different possibilities at Union, and for each to develop a unique vision.

Some of these artists convey their feelings of freedom in life through their art. others try to express real emotions and life-shaping experiences they have faced as part of a distinctive cultural or social group. They all share a common mode of expression through their art, but each has developed a particular vision that has become a large part of the way each artist experiences his or her life today.
