Group study rooms, CD and cassette tape listening equipment - general information

Schaffer library has ten rooms designated for group study. Rooms 003 through 015 are located in the basement, and rooms 212 and 220 are on the second floor.

VCRs and DVD players are available in all Group Study Rooms. A DVD remote is available for check out at the Circulation Desk. Compact Disc/Cassette Tape players (with headphones) are also available for check out at the Circulation Desk.

Group study room policies and procedures

For the majority of the year group study rooms are open and available on a first come, first served basis. However, during exam periods the high demand for these rooms necessitates the use of a reservation system. During these periods rooms 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, and 008 are only available by reservation, while all other group study rooms remain open on a first come, first served basis.

Reservation & use of group study rooms during exam periods:
  1. An individual may reserve a room on behalf of their group for no more than one two hour block per day.
  2. Reservations may not be made for others.
  3. Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance and are made at the Circulation Desk. Students will need their name and ID#, faculty will need their name and department. Reservations can be made in person or by phone (388-6280).
  4. If a group member does not arrive to check out the room key within 15 minutes of the reservation the room will be reassigned to another group if one is waiting.
  5. Rooms should be locked at the end of the period before the keys are returned to the circulation desk.
  6. Students may renew keys only if the room has not been reserved for the consecutive time block.
  7. The fine for a late key is $.50 per half-hour.
  8. The charge for a lost key is $50.00

Keep in mind that group study rooms are also the library's media viewing rooms. Occasionally it becomes necessary to ask students to give up a group study room to a student or group who needs the room to view assigned videos or DVDs.
