Martin Benjamin, professor of visual arts, took part in a benefit for The Egg in Albany. The even included an exhibit of photos from his popular “Rock Shots” series. Proceeds from the sale of many of Benjamin’s prints went directly to the theater.

Three Benjamin photographs were accepted into a group exhibition of Capital Region photojournalists at The Photo Center in Troy. The exhibition, "Decisive Moment," will run through May 29. Benjamin’s work can also be seen in “Coming of Age,” at the Kirkland Arts Center in Clinton, N.Y. The exhibit was selected by Anthony Bannon, director of the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography in Rochester.

Marcus Rogers, assistant director of dance, will lead in-school dance presentations for “Classical Kids,” an arts education program, as a joint venture by the College and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Rogers will work with elementary-and middle school-age children, who will also receive season lawn passes for classical performances if they complete the program. Union just recently signed a deal to become a multi-year sponsor of the arts education program at SPAC. Alyssa Simeone '11 will work as Rogers' dance partner.

Christopher Chabris, assistant professor of psychology, recently led a management seminar at the Columbia Business School. The Management Division Seminar features weekly presentations from distinguished visitors as well as school’s own faculty.

Steven Michalek, technical director, lighting designer and visiting assistant professor of theater and dance, recently attended the United States Institute of Theatre Technology’s conference in Charlotte, N.C. Michalek attended sessions on foam carving and sculpting, dance floor specifications, integrating classroom instruction with a production calendar and more. 

Rebecca Koopman ‘89, associate professor of physics and astronomy, was awarded a week of observing time at the WIYN 0.9m telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tucson, Ariz. Halley Darling '13 accompanied Koopmann to the telescope to carry out observations of star formation properties of nearby galaxies. Darling will analyze the data as part of her Union College Summer Research Fellowship.
