Alvaro Peters '14 received the Greater Albany Leadership Council on Inclusion Multicultural Award for his diversity and community service commitment at the College. The mission of LCI is to enhance and promote diversity and multicultural programs at educational institutions in New York’s Capital Region. The council serves as a resource, advocate and catalyst for implementing institutional change related to local and national issues of inclusion in education. 

 Lewis Davis, associate professor of economics, was named managing editor of the Review of Economics and Institutions, an online journal that focuses on the interplay of economic and social institutions. It is published by the University of Perugia Electronic Press. He also was named to the editorial board of the Eastern Economic Journal, a regional, general interest journal published by Palgrave-MacMillan.

Matthew Malatesta ‘91, vice president for Admissions, Financial Aid and Enrollment, was quoted in a ProPublica piece on the debate between “need blind” and “need aware” college admissions. Malatesta said that while neither approach is superior, touting a “need blind” label isn’t meaningful for students who are offered admission that comes with unsustainable debt.

“The Complete Story of the Author of Twelve Years a Slave,” a book co-authored by Clifford Brown, the Robert Porter Patterson Professor of Government, has received significant media coverage in the last week. Brown was interviewed for a radio piece on “All Things Considered,” broadcast Saturday, Oct. 19 on National Public Radio. To listen to the story, click here. The New York Times recently chronicled the experiences of Nancy Borowick '07, who got married shortly after her husband proposed, to make sure her parents, both critically ill, would be there. Nancy's mother has breast cancer, her father has pancreatic cancer. She and Kyle Grimm '08 were married Oct. 5. To read the story and see her photos, click here
