Student Spotlight: Kelley White '16

Hometown: Sudbury, Massachusetts
Major
: Electrical Engineering
Minor: Economics

Why Union:
When my mom and I drove through the front entrance of Union, I knew it was the place for me. The Nott Memorial, the centerpiece of campus that unites Union's community, says it all. After falling in love with the school during my visit, I decided to apply Early Decision. Union felt just like home from the moment I stepped on campus. Applying here was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Most inspiring class:
ECE 225. I know; an electrical engineering course that's inspiring? But yes, this course confirmed what I was interested in and wanted to be doing for the rest of my life. Professor (Yu) Chang challenged me with difficult circuit problems while also giving me confidence that I could excel in such a difficult major.

Also excited about:
Going on a mini-term to New Zealand and learning a subject different than my major and minor. I am excited to experience a completely abroad different lifestyle and culture while also taking a new and exciting course in a whole new environment.

Favorite study spot:
The first floor of Sorum House, my Minerva House.

Activities:
Union College Volleyball, Delta Delta Delta, Student Volunteer Committee, Math Club, Campus Kitchens Food Resourcing chair, Ski Club

Things I'm passionate about at Union:

  • Athletics: There is no lack of support from the school and the community.
  • Campus Kitchens: It's a great way for students to reach out to the Schenectady community.
  • Wing Wednesday at Skellar: The best!

Greatest Union moments
Joining the Delta sisterhood helped me meet more people, not only in my sorority, but all around campus.

How I'm making Union a better place
By helping the Union and Schenectady communities become more connected through Campus Kitchens. It’s important to reach out past the campus and discover what else is in Schenectady.

Advice for incoming students:
Try new things. Follow your passions but also stretch out of your comfort zone. You never know what you'll find out about yourself.
