The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) and the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve are seeking a Research Assistant to assist the Reserve’s Research Program. Will conduct long-term research and monitoring on Hudson River Estuary habitats, including freshwater tidal emergent marshes and beds of submerged aquatic vegetation. Will calibrate, deploy, and maintain data loggers, collect water samples and field data, and operate weather stations. Assist with management of a large volume of data following QA/QC protocols to maintain and update databases. Position includes working in both laboratory and field settings.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering or related field. At least six months of hands-on experience with environmental laboratory and/or field work from either classroom or professional setting required. Knowledge of water quality sampling and analysis procedure a must. Ability to operate boats, hand and power tools. Proven ability to follow rigorous sampling procedures. Excellent communication and organizational skills necessary. May through September (20-25 hours per week;) October through December (15-20 hours per week.)
