Associate Director, Career Advising and Experiential Education

The Associate Director will supervise the career advising staff and provide leadership to the areas of career assessment and experiential education. He or she will collaborate with academic units, university departments, and employers to determine the needs of students, alumni, and other constituents. The Associate Director will provide leadership and direction to campus experiential education programs and serve as a member of the Career Services leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans for the department and career advising team.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Four years of experience working with students in a higher education setting
- Experience working with resumes, interviewing, job search strategies, hiring trends, social networking, and online resources and methods
- Experience supervising professional staff members
- Experience using career assessments with clients in a career setting
- Experience effectively advising students in individual appointments.
- Experience thinking strategically and collaborating with others to develop effective and realistic long-term planning
- Exceptional writing ability, required when communicating with faculty, students, alumni and employers
- Experience collaborating with academic units and other university departments
- Experience developing and presenting informative and engaging workshops on career-related topics
- Computer proficiency
- Willingness to travel for career events and conferences, including some overnight and weekend travel
- A valid driver license with less than six points is required
 


Preferred Qualifications


Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in counseling, college student personnel, education, or human resources
- Certification in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory, and experience in giving both individual and group interpretations
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people, including clients from diverse and international backgrounds, and alumni
- Must be able to assess needs, offer relevant and sensitive advice, maintain confidentiality, and refer students to other departments when needed
- Knowledge of Millennial students and the ways they learn, communicate, and operate in the job market, particularly in their use of technology
- Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
 -In-depth knowledge of Career Services online software and services (CSO Interfase, Going Global, etc.), and the ability to effectively instruct students, alumni, faculty and employers in their functions
- Extensive experience and ability in utilizing social media as networking tools including LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook
- Teaching experience
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic, Marianist work environment.
