Description


-Designs, documents and implements data center commissioning programs and procedures to verify data center facility systems work as intended by the Engineer of Record as described in the Basis of Design documents and Sequence of Operations.
-Supervises contractors, equipment supply vendors and independent testing contractors to conduct functional and integrated testing of newly installed or modified facility systems (such as Uninterruptible Power Supplies, utility switchgear and distribution equipment, standby generator systems, chillers, cooling towers, fire detection and suppression systems, pumping systems, air distribution systems and building and automation controls) on a project basis.
-Acts as owner’s representative in observing, testing and documenting data center performance to design criteria during and following construction activities, certifying results in a commissioning Report of Record.
-Develops Operations and Maintenance manuals and programs to provide a base of knowledge for the data center owner to assure reliable operation.
-In existing data centers, performs professional assessments of power capacity and delivery systems, heat transfer systems, Single Points of Failure (SPOF) studies, reliability studies and related facility issues that impact IT processing operations.
-Develops gap analyses, recommendations and action plans in a consulting role to data center owners and managers.
-Develops and documents staffing roles and responsibilities in data center facility operations, providing Total Cost of Ownership studies leading to data center optimization.
-Performs forensic testing and analysis of mission critical facility systems following data center failures, developing reports and recommendations on which modifications in design and operation will be based to prevent or lessen the impact of data center failure on IT processing.

Responsibilities:

In respective discipline (electrical or mechanical):
1.
-Provides leadership on a multi-disciplinary commissioning team to conduct formal testing and performance analysis of data center facility infrastructure systems and equipment.

2. -Develops unique and custom commissioning procedures to verify data center facility systems performance, specifying resources and schedules to fulfill a commissioning Scope of Work.

3. -Provides client facing representation as the Commissioning Engineering Agent of Record in project, construction and problem resolution meetings, documenting topics, activities, commitments and related project subjects.

4. -Specifies required data center equipment vendor participation, resources and activities required to complete Scope of Work documenting performance.

5. -Compiles commissioning report and documentation elements from multiple disciplines to produce a finished Commissioning Report of Record as required in the Scope of Work.

6. -Leads data center assessment activities in existing data centers to determine capacity and capability to support IT processing systems, identifying gaps and making high level recommendations used in data center planning and designs.

7. -Performs Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions in data center commissioning, assessments and forensic analysis reports and findings to assure accuracy and completeness.

8. -As assigned, acts as Project Manager on commissioning, assessment and forensic analysis contracts, scheduling and tracking resources, deliverables, costs to assure margin and profit goals are met.
9.
-Directs contractual fulfillment through Scope of Work and on-site supervision of technical and engineering teams, up to and including final report and certification of site performance.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical discipline strongly preferred; advanced degrees desired

- 5+ years’ experience in data center construction, design, field engineering, testing or data center operations required

- 5+ years’ experience in mission-critical and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering essential

- PE (Professional Engineering) desired

- Military or field experience working with any of a broad range of mission critical systems such as Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), utility switchgear and distribution equipment, standby generator systems, chillers, cooling towers, fire detection and suppression systems, pumping systems, air distribution systems, and building automation controls.

- Relevant licenses and certifications a plus. LEED certification preferred. Designated Commissioning Agent holding a CxA or equivalent from a recognized authority is strongly desired.

Knowledge and Skills:

- 5+ years working in related mission critical field

- Has completed at least five commissioning projects as lead engineer

- Strong analytical skills

- Strong communication skills

- Willing and able to support project teams in all aspects of building design and operations
