The Communications Specialist will be responsible for duties in the areas of media relations and social media to include: assisting in the development and dissemination of both proactive and reactive University messaging to regional and international media; writing a variety of internal and external communications, including news releases, advisories and features for both print and the web; assisting in the coordination and research of opportunities to best incorporate social media into the overall University communications plan; working with departments across the University to enhance social media messaging; exploring and recommending new social media tools and platforms; and working with team members to establish metrics and track social media initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a US Dept. of Ed. or internationally recognized organization - One to two years experience as a media relations representative for an organization which involved gathering information, writing and producing news releases, as well as interaction with the news media - Experience with social media tools including social networking sites and other emerging technologies - Demonstrated experience implementing social media messaging and/or campaigns - Must have excellent writing and verbal skills, as well as be a team player who shows initiative in telling the University’s story - Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
- Experience in a higher education environment, preferably from a communications perspective - Proficient in basic photography, videography, and content management systems
