Description


- Supervision of OEL’s direction, including development and implementation of area goals and objectives
- Supervision of OEL operations, including policy and process development; budget development and maintenance; OEL publications and marketing approaches, including  information on OEL website, used in OEL social media, and in other college publications; internship database; and development and execution of risk management plan for experiential programs
- Supervise office personnel, including the Assistant Director, an Internship Coordinator, Office Manager, 2-3 work study employees, and on occasion, an intern(s) from another post-secondary institution
- Develop and oversee implementation of new programs
- In partnering with the Office of Institutional Advancement, advocate for scholarship funding for experiential programs.
- Advise prospective interns about internship opportunities, securing an internship, responsibilities while interning, and developing learning outcomes of the internship.
- Facilitate placement of students into appropriate internship opportunities.
- Monitor, advise, and evaluate interns during internships by reading of and responding as needed to biweekly journal submissions, mid-semester paper, and final papers; visits and phone calls to the internship site; assessing the achievement of the agreed-upon learning outcomes; and recommendation and/or submission of final grade.
- Serve as liaison between companies and interns to evaluate learning experience and mediate potential conflicts.
- Identify and recruit new internship sites.  Through communication and/or visits, determine the quality of the learning environment at the prospective sites.  Communicate expectations and responsibilities of internship sites and intern supervisors to site personnel.
- Present internship and informational seminars and internship orientation sessions
- Serve on various college committees.

Qualifications

- Master’s degree in student counseling, higher education administration, or related field.

- Demonstrated commitment to experiential education.

- Several years experience in experiential education or career counseling in a higher education setting.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in student services; strong student counseling and advising skills.

- Demonstrated effectiveness in personnel management.

- Effectiveness in budget development and management.

- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and consensus-building skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone with a variety of individuals and groups at various levels of the college and external environments.

- Strong organizational skills, including being self-motivated and the effectiveness to prioritize multiple responsibilities and set and meet deadlines, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with others at all levels of an organization on meeting common goals.

- High level of professionalism.

- Interest in working in a diverse workplace with a multicultural student body

- Familiarity with today’s music styles, leading musical figures, and the basic structure/organization of the music industry.  Musical training or equivalent experience is desirable, but not required.

- Proficient in Macintosh and Microsoft Office applications.  Familiarity with contemporary office systems technology, including database management and basic web management.  Experience with Datatel/Ellucian products considered a plus.

- Proficient in effectively using social media platforms.
