The position will focus on the following functions:
- Further establish TLC’s reputation as the leading conservation partner of the Triangle region
- Define the natural infrastructure needs, priorities and strategies around Falls Lake and Jordan Lake (the two major water supplies for the population of the Triangle)
- Lead, manage and effectively engage a team that supports and improves conservation efforts
- Be a positive contributor to TLC’s staff leadership team and on cross-departmental teams
- Develop key partnerships with public and private organizations and community leaders in order to effectively implement strategies, and to widely communicate solutions and best practices
- Negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies, developers, land owners and other conservation organizations to conserve, protect, and utilize natural communities
- Develop and implement conservation strategies, and assist with securing the necessary resources
- Partner with renowned academic faculty at Duke, UNC Chapel Hill and NC State to develop innovative analyses, tools and frameworks to achieve conservation results, build public trust, and raise TLC’s profile
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree and 10-15+ years experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience directing a major program of strategic importance, including management/supervision of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans at the town, county, city and/or state-level
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in developing/increasing sources of public funding
- Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives
- Experience in partnership development ( NGO, community, government, etc.); experience with high-level conservation contacts, donors and political figures
- Ability to Manage time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results
- Ability to communicate clearly and compellingly via written, spoken and various media
- Experience supporting fundraising efforts
- Demonstrated success as an inspirational manager who has motivated staff to achieve and sustain excellence.
- Leadership ability to work effectively with and through others in a region that has multiple powerful, distinct and often competing municipalities
- Political savvy, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
