The Director of Physical Plant reports to the Vice President for Administration and performs the following duties:
- Develops preliminary studies relating to new and/or long range planning for capital construction projects.
- Works in conjunction with the Vice President for Administration and the Vice President for Finance in developing methods for financing capital construction projects.
- Prepares plans and specifications for capital projects, not involving architecture services.
- Maintains plans and records relating to capital project growth.
- Develops efficient land usage and land acquisition consistent with Master Plan projects of the College.
- Assists with communications with SUNY facilities planning officials and representatives of the local sponsor.
- Participates in the Joint Building Committee of Rensselaer County and Board of Trustees as the College’s Administrative Representative.
Reviews and certifies requisitions and documents of all contractors in connection with capital construction contracts.
- Assumes primary responsibility for the total management of the College Physical Plant and properties, general building and grounds maintenance, HVAC operations, and labor support for various projects and campus activities and custodial services.
- Consults, plans and advises College Administration and staff in affairs relative to the Physical Plant.
- Exercises direct supervision over the Director of Institutional Services & Events.
- Oversee the proper operations of the College’s Cogeneration Facility.
- Acts as the College’s Energy Manager.
- Serves as Chair of the College’s Emergency Preparedness Committee.
- Implements, where applicable, the terms and provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreements covering the Non-Instructional Employees Union (NIEU) and the Non-Teaching Professionals
(NTP’s).
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Administration.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, New

- York State Professional Engineering License, proven administrative ability, with five years

- experience in building construction management, engineering layout and design, including

- experience in facilities planning and management of the operations related to large facility

- mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as maintenance, custodial and grounds

- physical plant functions of a large complex facility. Must possess the ability to understand the

- language of engineering drawings, including the legal aspects relating to Municipal, County, State

- and Federal agencies, a thorough working knowledge of energy conservation techniques;

- thermal principles such as heat transfer; program promotion practices and techniques,

- mechanical and electrical engineering, relating to the design, operation and maintenance of

- heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical systems and Energy Management Systems.

- Good communication skills, the ability to institute data and/or record keeping systems required.

- Master’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
