Utilizing their innovative design of flexible and precise impedance‐based measurement technology, the company continues to successfully penetrate the construction and paving market for both soil and asphalt applications. Founded in 1994, the company employs over 20 people within its Upstate, NY manufacturing headquarters. TransTech has continually sought out partnerships with manufacturers, government agencies, universities, and construction contractors to evaluate new technologies and applications and as a result of these efforts; the company has begun development of 3 new product lines for the construction industry.
The Schenectady, NY operation is located within Tech Valley, a 19‐county region of eastern New York State that spans from south of Montreal to north of New York City. Reporting to the Engineering Lead, the Electrical Engineer will be an integral member of the TransTech product development team. This position will provide technical expertise for next generation new product introductions and existing designs in support of non‐nuclear soil density and asphalt gauges. The ideal candidate will be a confident individual, capable of balancing multiple priorities and contributing to the growth and success of a cross‐functional engineering team. The chosen professional will participate in new product development efforts in the design, assembly and test of electrical components at the board and chip level. Successful candidates must demonstrate a high degree of creativity in solving complex engineering problems with simple, clean solutions at the component level in addition to having a fundamental understanding of engineering across a wide spectrum of disciplines in order to complete a total system design. A critical component to the success of this individual will be based on his/her abilities to communicate effectively, manage complex projects under tight timetables and quickly turn electronic concepts into functioning hardware in an innovative manner. Addressing technical challenges with an entrepreneurial approach, this professional will be highly self motivated and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact as a successful engineer who achieves results through clear project definition, well articulated design approaches and effective communication.
Participate in the development of existing and next generation soil and asphalt instrumentation solutions that include electrical impedance, algorithm development, signal processing, complex data and material analysis.
Provide documentation for all system functions including schematics, datasheets, test specifications and bills of material.
Perform programming for embedded electronics and software user interfaces as needed. Assist in the development of embedded PCs for next generation devices
Evaluate designs/experiments for manufacturing practices that will produce the highest reliability and product manufacturability, while driving down product cost. Where possible utilize modular assemblies across product lines.
Participate in “hands on” component and system testing. Perform analytical studies as needed to demonstrate design performance.
Develop relationships with key suppliers and maximize their knowledge of materials, assembly processes and optimum design parameters for the various product lines.
Prepare technical reports, proposals, summaries, protocols and quantitative analysis. Participate in scientific conferences and make contributions to publications and patents when appropriate.
The Electrical Engineer will be a detail driven, highly organized and energetic professional that possesses exceptional interpersonal communication skills and the “hands on” engineering ability to run concurrent projects, manage and prioritize parallel tasks effectively, and meet deadlines with a high sense of urgency. Our candidate of choice will play a critical role in the overall success of the next generation technology programs. Essential to the success of this professional is the ability to design circuit boards using applicable software, produce prototype design for verification and transition designs to manufacturing while simultaneously interacting with various levels of internal and external customers, vendors and partners.
Specific qualifications include:
Candidates should possess a strong track record of academic achievement coupled with successful completion of at least one internship in an electrical engineering/product development environment.
Strong problem‐solving skills and demonstrated intellectual creativity to analyze and articulate unique technical problems.
Exceptional communications skills. Proven ability to present to the executive team, board of directors, customers, and conferences.
Knowledgeable of modeling, design, analysis and project management software tools. Pads, DxDesigner, Circuit Maker or TraxMaker preferred.
BS in Engineering (Electrical or Software).
