The Market Manager of Schenectady Greenmarket will work closely with the Board to promote the organization’s mission, position the organization to grow and thrive, and set priorities for maximizing impact.  He or she will provide strong leadership for the organization, including management of programs, operating budget, strategic plan, donor and community relations, marketing, and development efforts with the support of the Board.  Specifically, the Market Manager has the following responsibilities:
- Reports to the Vice-Chairperson of the Board
- Manage the physical operation of the Market every day that it is open (i.e., be present for the setup, operation, and takedown every Sunday).
- Work with the Board to develop and execute a long-term strategic plan and yearly operating plan.
- Continue to foster the ability of the Board, key stakeholders, and vendors to work together in support of the strategic plan.
- Implement and coordinate Board actions and policies, and maintain close communications with the Executive Committee to ensure the organization’s effectiveness and sustainability.
- Lead and manage Schenectady Greenmarket’s volunteers and consultants in support of the organization’s efforts.
- Help to ensure the financial integrity of the organization.  This encompasses maintaining appropriate financial records; managing within the yearly operating budget; ensuring proper and timely processing of expenditures; overseeing appropriate use of resources available to the organization; and producing reports for committee and Board review.
- Work with development chair to generate revenue to meet annual development plan goals established in the Board-approved budget, including events and gifts from current and new individual, corporate, and foundation donors.  Identify and pursue grant opportunities and manage funding, and reporting to ensure funding sources for existing and new enhancement programs.  Oversee donor database.  Nurture major donor and foundation relationships.
- Lead efforts to maintain and create new partnerships and collaborations that will support the organization’s mission.
- Oversee the development of marketing and communications strategies and materials to build the profile of the Market.
- Promote the work of Schenectady Greenmarket through appropriate print and electronic media, online and social media, and other means.
- Perform other duties as mutually agreed.

Qualifications

- Business experience, preferably in the nonprofit field.
- Management experience leading an organization, with measurable results in, mentoring, developing, and retaining staff and volunteers.
- Proven experience with financial management, fund accounting, and budgeting.
- A demonstrated track record of generating revenue through grants, major donors, corporations, and/or foundations for an organization, as a volunteer, consultant, or professional.
- Proven success engaging, building, and supporting a nonprofit governing board.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Proficient with software consistent with modern office practices.
