Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants in Russian and Chinese

Award Date: June 2013

Associate Professor of French and Chair of Modern Languages Cheikh Ndiaye, Associate Professor of Russian Kristin Bidoshi, and Assistant Professor of Chinese Zhen Zhang have successfully secured Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) in Russian and Chinese for the 2013-14 academic year.

FLTAs are a welcome and exciting resource for Union's programs.  The FLTA's primary responsibility will be to assist in teaching first and second year Chinese and Russian language courses. In conjunction with that work, the FLTA will lead practice or drill sessions, offer guided conversational activity, and provide tutoring as appropriate. The FLTA will also attend and actively participate in Language Table and Language Club meetings. The FLTAs will reside in residences associated with our Language Programs, thus offering to our students further informal practice in every-day conversational language with our FLTA, or in Minerva residences, thus offering to the college community increased international presence and programming.

The addition of a Russian and Chinese FLTAs to our programs in recent years has been invaluable and a great asset, offering a tremendous opportunity for expanded exposure to the languages and cultures.
