Winter Break
This mini-term takes place mainly in the Louvre Museum, the world's most visited museum in the world. Vast collections of masterpieces from around the world are contained in this famous museum. There will also be forays to other nearby art museums, such as d'Orsay; historic locations, such as Delacroix's studio; and several celebrated architectural structures and monuments.
Course of Study
"Drawn to Paris"
This rigorous studio visual arts course will be premised on making drawings, beginning with close-up viewing and study of original drawings in the Louvre and other museums. Students will explore and apply a variety of drawing media and stylistic approaches. Projects include firsthand transcriptions from masterworks of drawing, painting and sculpture, as well as on-location renderings from the rich architecture found in the city of Paris. The central emphasis is creating one's own sketches and drawings, supplemented by journal entries. Periodic reviews and discussions of student work will take place in a casual setting.
Pre-requisites
Students applying to the "Drawn to Paris" mini-term should have:
- Two Studio Visual Arts courses (any media), or permission of the instructor.
- Some familiarity with French language is desirable, though not required. Priority for the mini-term will be given to students who are majors or minors in either the Department of Visual Arts studio areas or art history.
Accommodations
Accommodations for students in Paris are doubles with shared bath in a centrally-located two-star hotel within walking distance of the Louvre.

- June: Non-refundable deposit due at the Cashier's Office in McKean, receipt taken to the International Programs Office.
