Project Description:

This research was based on previous psychological studies that have suggested that confronting an individual who behaves in a prejudicial manner may be an effective way to reduce that individual’s prejudice level. This research focused specifically on the situational and individual factors that affect one’s likelihood to confront another person. A questionnaire was distributed to participants in which they were instructed to imagine themselves in situations where they observed racism, sexism, and sexual prejudice. Their reactions to these situations were coded and and analyzed to find which situational and individual factors were statistically significant in motivating one to confront prejudice.
