You can experience China firsthand on Union's fall term abroad in Shanghai through CET Academic Programs. The course of study includes electives, intensive language and possible internship placements. Courses are taught by seasoned faculty whose connections give students an insider’s view of the city. Students might hear prominent economic journalists debate the role of globalization as a cultural force, attend a social entrepreneurship business competition, enjoy a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the famous Zikawei Library or visit a local solar panel producer. In addition, Shanghai day trips feature local government offices, secret Chinese gardens, think tanks, the Confucian temple, small start-ups, historical sites and more. Excursions farther afield include a trip the Yangtze Delta region, which exposes some of China’s most pressing social, economic and environmental issues.
Other outstanding study abroad options for the Chinese major at Union include faculty-advised independent study and Union's mini-term in Tianjin, which focuses on traditional Chinese medicine.
