Why did you choose Union?
When applying for college, I knew I wanted a school within 3 hours from home and I wanted a liberal arts education. When I toured Union on admitted students day, I knew it was the place for me. I thought that the campus was beautiful and I enjoyed speaking with a current psychology student at the admitted students day lunch. I began to get excited about what my next 4 years would bring. One thing that stood out to me from my tour was the Minerva Program, which has ended up being the most significant part of my time here.
How do you describe Union to your friends and family?
When I talk about Union with my friends and family, the Minerva Program is obviously part of my description. Additionally, I always talk about the comfort of a small campus. I have short walks to anywhere on campus, and in every class I’m guaranteed to have a familiar face. I also like to talk about my friends and the fun things we do together – whether it’s movies at Bowtie Cinema, a Sunday morning at the farmers market, a spring term hike, hanging out in our Minerva’s great room, movie nights, cooking, or just grabbing meals together at Upper Dining Hall.
What has been your favorite class assignment at Union?
My favorite class outside of my major/minors was “The Vampire as Other in Eastern European/American Culture.” This class was both educational in regards to exploring culture and history, and fun! My final paper for the class was on a vampiric topic of my choosing, so of course I went with Twilight.
What is your favorite place off-campus in Schenectady?
My favorite thing to do off-campus is go to the Sunday Greenmarket. My friends and I go as often as we can, especially for our favorite empanadas. When my parents or my friends from home visit I always make it a priority to stop at the farmer’s market!
