$9.70/hr
Purpose/Role of the Position(s) within the Department
To work with student attendees, parents, community members, and area schools to build an environment that fosters young people to become: imaginative and critical thinkers, lifelong learners, participants in a diverse global community, responsible and involved citizens, collaborative and quality workers.
Duties and Responsibilities
There are three possible positions available:
1. Tutor: regular, weekly shifts at COCOA House, during which work-study student will assist with one-on-one tutoring of 3rd-5th grade students, supervise academic enrichment activities, and maintain site rules (e.g. disciplinary and safety procedures). During each term, the work-study student may be asked to assist with field trips to local learning sites (e.g. museums, libraries) and/or Union College. (Note: ideally seeking 2 work-study students in this role per term)
2. Tutor + Budget Manager: responsibilities listed above (for less time) and maintenance of non-profit organization's budget- tracking and payment of bills/funding intake, reports on financial status to board members (Note: ideally seeking 1 work-study student in this role per term)
Qualifications for the Position
All positions:
- Interest and ability to work with elementary school aged children
- Ability to work cooperatively and productively with volunteers, school district staff, parents, and community members
- Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation
- Familiarity and experience with diverse populations strongly preferred
Budget Manager Position
- Computer skills = Microsoft Excel
- High organization- Ability to track and respond to immediate financial needs of organization
- Effective and prompt communication with board
