  • 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.: Registration and Information Tent

    Location: Old Chapel Traffic Circle

    College staff will be on hand to welcome guests to campus. Stop by to pick up your name tag, a schedule of events, campus map and other information.

  • 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.: Campus Tour starting at the Nott Memorial

    Join student guides for a walking tour of Union's historic campus.

  • 12:45 P.M.: Procession at Old Chapel

    Location: Old Chapel

  • 1:00 P.M.- 2:30 P.M.: Inauguration Ceremony at Hull Plaza

    Location: Hull Plaza (in front of the library)

    The faculty, staff and students of Union College ask that you join us for the official installation ceremony of our 19th president, David R. Harris. The ceremony will begin with a procession of Union College faculty and trustees joined by delegates from other higher education institutions. The ceremony will include music and performances from several Union College groups. Friends, family, and former colleagues of President Harris will help introduce our new president to the community.

  • 2:45 P.M. - 3:45 P.M.: Handshake with President Harris in the Nott Memorial

    Location: Nott Memorial

    Following immediately after the Inauguration Ceremony guests are invited to the Nott Memorial to meet President Harris and offer a brief word of congratulations.

  • 5:30 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.: Garden Gala in Jackson's Garden

    Set in the beautiful surroundings of Jackson’s Garden, the Union College community will celebrate the installation of its 19th president. Guests will enjoy a delicious array of international food and beverages with musical accompaniment. All are welcome. "Garden Party" attire includes summer dress or dressy casual clothing, slacks, a button-down shirt or short-sleeved polo. Jacket optional. No tie. Flat shoes or wedge heels are strongly recommended as the event will take place on grass and gravel pathways.

    Please inquire at the Garden Gala registration table near the Chester Arthur statue at the entrance to Jackson's Garden if you will require assistance during the evening. Golf carts and staff will be on hand.

  • 8:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.: Dessert Reception at Hull Plaza

    Location: Hull Plaza (in front of library)

    Guests are invited to gather on the plaza in front of the Schaffer Library for a selection of desserts and music provided by student DJs from WRUC, Union College's radio station known as the "first station in the nation."

  • 9:00 P.M.: Fireworks at the Rugby Field

    Location: Rugby Field

    Union College will cap off the celebration of the inauguration of its 19th president with an exciting fireworks display over the campus’s main quad area with the Nott Memorial serving as a dramatic backdrop.

  • 7:00 A.M. : Bike Ride with President Harris at the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway

    Community Bike Ride with President David Harris

    7 a.m. from the Nott Memorial (gather at the Nott starting at 6:30)

    Route is 12+ miles out and back on the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway.

    All members of the Union and Schenectady communities are invited to participate in a bike ride with President Harris. Riders at all levels of experience are encouraged to participate. The route features optional stops at historical site Erie Canal Lock 23 (at mile 3/7) and Mohawk River Lock 8 and park (mile 4/6).

    • Route leaves campus at Payne Gate
    • Right (west) on Union Street, through Stockade
    • Enter bike path at Schenectady County Community College
    • Proceed about four miles west on bike path to turnaround at Kiwanis Park in Rotterdam.

    Parking: Nott-Seward Lot, ride to start at Nott via Terrace Lane North (in front of Yulman Theater)


    • Helmets required. Riders should follow traffic rules: ride on right side, obey all stop signals.
    • Riders should bring a water bottle.
    • Refreshments provided at start/finish.
    • To minimize congestion, riders will start in waves.
    • Campus Safety will provide bike patrol to assist with traffic, emergencies. College volunteers will serve as ride marshals.
