ITS has deployed a new systems management utility (Dell KACE) for college-owned machines. This utility will allow ITS to manage college-owned computers more efficiently (ability to remotely push out patches and applications as needed ).
What has been done so far? ITS has installed the utility software on all college-owned machines. This software supports the process of deploying patches and applications to college-owned computers. Users will see a notification pop up from KACE when an application or patches are pushed to their machine.
What has been decided so far? ITS is still testing many of the features of this software. Currently this utility is being used to deploy software images on new faculty/staff computers in addition to all electronic classroom computers (instructor and student computers in classrooms) and ITS-run computer lab computers. In addition, we have used this utility to push out an application to a computer when faculty or staff call and request it.
What is the process for deciding on new functionality and changes in procedures? There is a project team in ITS that will develop a project plan for the upcoming academic year. This plan will be shared with the Liaison Committee for Academic Computing and Technology to get feedback on the plan and any recommendations on approaches for supporting the campus community.
This is an ongoing project and this site will be updated as decisions are made about process and procedures.
