The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is a NYS grant-funded program designed "to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students prepared to enter college, and improve their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and the licensed professions," as described by the NYS Education Department.
Union College STEP has been in operation since 1994, providing eligible students with high quality STEM instruction, support, and enrichment. All STEP services are provided at no cost.

To enroll in STEP, students must be:
- Enrolled in Grades 7-12
- Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Alaskan Native or American Indian
- Economically disadvantaged as per the NYS STEP Income Eligibility Criteria
Academic Year Program

The Academic Year program follows the Union College trimester calendar. Union STEP typically offers 3-5 events each term, including but not limited to: academic workshops, field trips, and college visits.
Students enrolled in the Academic Year program are also eligible to receive free tutoring services, free SAT/ACT classes, and mentoring by Union college students.
Students enrolled in the Academic Year program are eligible to receive free one to one tutoring provided by a college student mentor.
