We own a collection of over a million print and electronic books and subscribes to more than 12,000 journals, the majority of which are available electronically. Tens of millions of documents owned by the library can be found and accessed through Summon Search. The Library expands users access to information resources by joining several organizations, consortia and cooperative projects.
The Special Collections and Archives department is an integral part of Schaffer Library. It includes the Union College Archives, special book collections, manuscripts, maps, photographs, sound recordings, ephemera, three dimensional objects and other primary source materials.
Union College Permanent Collection
The Union College Permanent Collection holds over 2,500 works of art and artifacts. Selections of the collection are installed in public and administrative areas campus wide. UCPC's mission is to enhance the academic programs and the cultural life of the Union College Community and the public.
The Adirondack Research Library
The Adirondack Research Library is a large specialized library collection outside the "Blue Line" concerning the history and culture of the Adirondacks. Originally founded in 1979 as a nonprofit, grassroots organization the library began as an outgrowth of a course taught by conservationist Paul Schaefer at Union College.
Union | Digital Works (Institutional Repository)
Union | Digital Works is Union College's institutional repository, reflecting the research, scholarly, and creative output of the Union College community. It preserves and provides access to a growing list of collections, including senior honors theses and projects.

Lally Reading Room
The Lally room of the Schaffer Library holds rotating exhibit showcases that feature a variety of prominent historical pieces, including works from the John Audubon Birds of America collection.
Beuth Atrium Exhibit
Chester Alan Arthur attended Union College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1848, and then taught at academies in North Pownel, VT and Cohoes, NY, and studied law at the State and National Law School in Ballston Spa, NY. Learn more...
Inaugurated in 1995, the Mandeville Gallery is located on the second floor of Union College’s national historic landmark, the Nott Memorial. The Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting the work of contemporary artists and exploring the links between the arts and sciences.
