Trumpeter Ray Vega will perform at Union in Emerson Auditorium, paying tribute to Latin jazz percussionist Mongo Santamaria.
Along with other jazz and Latin musicians, Vega will play songs popularized by Santamaria at 8 p.m., in the auditorium, located in the Taylor Music Center. Admission is $20 for the general public and $10 for students, seniors and those with a Union ID.
Vega, a native of the south Bronx, has played with Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Mongo Santamaría, Mario Bauza, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Paul Simon, The Mingus Big Band, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Celia Cruz and numerous others. He tours internationally and is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Vermont in Burlington.
