Embracing the concept of the library as a laboratory, the Mandeville Gallery and the Schaffer Library at Union College present the Art Installation Series in an effort to shift the visual arts from a gallery setting into a public space.
Once a year, a contemporary artist will be invite to create an art installation piece for the Schaffer Library Learning Commons. Students, staff, faculty and the public will be able to view the artist at work, observe the creative process in real time, and informally interact with the artist as s/he creates.
All artists will have four days to complete their artwork with the assistance of students, culminating in an artist talk about the experience. The artwork will remain on display for one year after completion.
Stacey Robinson is the fifth artist featured in the Art Installation Series. He will be installing his artwork Monday, March 27 through Thursday, March 30, from 9am to 5 pm.
There will be an Artist Talk and Reception, Friday, March 31 during Common Hour, 12:55 to 1:45 pm, in the Schaffer Library Learning Commons, where the artist will discuss his participation in the series. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
The Learning Commons is located on the first floor of the Schaffer Library.
