Union College’s Center for Data Analytics is hosting an Open Data Day Hackathon on Saturday, March 7. It is part of the Open Data Day 2020 – a worldwide celebration of open data. We invite high school and college students from the capital region to spend half a day at the Center. No prior knowledge of programming or data science is necessary. In the first part of the day we will hold workshops on working with data using Python, R and Tableau. In the second part of the day, participants will apply their newly learned skills to New York State open data. The goal is to create insights from data. This could be in the form of a summary table, a graph or a dashboard. The topic could range from restaurants to police stops, to lead levels in drinking water in schools. The day will end with a pizza lunch while participants present their work.
The tentative schedule is below:
8:30 – 9:00 Welcome Breakfast
9:00 – 10:45 Workshops on working with data using Python, R and Tableau
11:00 – 12:15 Working individually or in teams to create insights using New York State open data
12:15 – 1:00 Pizza lunch and sharing of insights
If you are interested in participating, please register here. If you are part of a team, you will be able to indicate that in the registration. The deadline for registration is February 24th.
The event is free (sponsored by the Center for Data Analytics). We look forward to seeing you on campus.
