Prize Day set for May 8
The campus community will gather virtually to honor students for their achievements in academics, research, service and governance on Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m. A total of 116 prizes will be awarded.

Steinmetz Symposium set for May 21
Steinmetz Symposium, Union’s celebration of undergraduate research in all disciplines, will be held Friday, May 21, and will be largely virtual, with pre-recorded talks and posters hosted on a website. There also will be student research panels on May 22 presented as live, synchronous Zoom webinars. One will focus on the theme of race, power and privilege, and one on nanoscience. In addition, there will be performances (partly live, partly recorded) from campus musical groups.

In-person commencement set for Class of 2021
Union plans to host an in-person commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 on Sunday, June 13, at 10 a.m. on Roger Hull (Library) Plaza. Nearly 500 students are expected to receive degrees during the outdoor (rain or shine) event. All graduates will be required to follow health and safety measures in accordance with New York state guidance. The featured speaker will be physician, medical researcher and educator Susanne J. Goldie ’84.

Class of 2020 on-campus celebration
On Sunday, June 20, the College will host an in-person celebration of the Class of 2020 at 10 a.m. on Hull Plaza. Commencement for the class was postponed last year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. All students who were eligible to participate in last year’s virtual ceremony and any students who have since completed their graduation requirements are invited to attend. Health and safety measures will prevail.

Student wins prestigious Goldwater Scholarship
Biology major Marcy Forti ’22 recently was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship, the top undergraduate award for students pursuing careers in mathematics, natural sciences and engineering.

Student awarded STEM research fellowship
Talia Marc ’24 has been awarded a Choose Development! Fellowship through the Society of Developmental Biology. The research-intensive undergraduate training program aims to increase the number of individuals from underrepresented populations in the field of developmental biology.

Students honored for outstanding service
Four students were recognized for work with area organizations this COVID year.

Students organize sustainability conference
Campus environmental activists Lauren Stebbins ’21 and Bethany Costello ’22 helped found Student Efforts to Advance Sustainability NY, a statewide conference designed to engage, inspire and empower students to enact sustainable change at their colleges.
