Dear Campus Community,
I am writing to inform you that Union College was notified that a staff member of the College community has a confirmed case of COVID-19. The staff member resides off campus. This individual will remain isolated from the campus population until they have been cleared by public health officials.
As a precaution, classes are suspended today, Thursday, March 12, and tomorrow, March 13 to allow Schenectady County Department of Health officials to complete their work in order to minimize public health risk. Information about final exams will be communicated later today.
- Practice elevated levels of social distancing including cancelling all events and in-person meetings.
- We are not closing offices at this time.
- Senior staff will reach out to their employees with additional guidance.
- Students, faculty and staff who may have been exposed will be notified by the Schenectady County Department of Health.
I want to reassure you that all appropriate precautions are being taken, and that the College’s COVID-19 task force continues to address related academic, student affairs and facilities concerns. We will communicate with our community again this afternoon.
Additionally, as is the case with the regular cold and flu season, there are everyday measures we can take to protect our health and the health of our community, such as frequent hand washing, avoiding touching your face, staying home when sick, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
Please exercise caution regarding information you may see about the virus on social media. The Schenectady County Department of Health, in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health, provide the only official confirmation of any communicable disease, including COVID-19.
The College will continue to monitor developments related to COVID-19 with guidance from our local and state health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
For updates as we have them check your email and visit the Union College COVID-19 information page on our website.
The College cares deeply about all members of our community and we ask for your empathy and courage as we partner with experts to protect the health of our community.
