Rabbi Kenneth Blatt to perform on Friday

The Union College Department of Music and students from the “Evolution of Popular Song” class will present Kenneth Blatt in a lecture and performance at 1:50 p.m. Friday in the Emerson Auditorium in the Taylor Music Center.

Blatt, a rabbi and cantor, will perform works by Jewish songwriters. He will be accompanied on piano by Tim Olsen, associate professor of music. It is a preview of "A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs, 1910-65," Blatt's concert at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at the Schenectady County Historical Society.

Blatt is spiritual leader of Congregation Shaara T'fille, the conservative synagogue in Saratoga Springs. He earned a Masters of Fine Arts in acting and directing from Florida Atlantic University, and a doctorate in theater from Michigan State University.

A professional entertainer and actor for more than 20 years, Blatt has performed in theaters, cabarets, hotel showrooms, clubhouses and on cruise ships, and he has directed more than 30 theatrical productions. He received his rabbinical ordination in 2010.
