The concerts offer a wide range of musical genres, new performers as well as long-time favorites of the Union series.
The series includes music from pre-Baroque to the 21st century. There are all-Bach, complete cello suites (Sophie Shao, Jan. 29), all-Mozart string quartets (Sophie Shao and Friends, Oct. 13), and all-Mendelssohn trios (Wu Han, Philip Setzer and David Finckel, Feb. 17). Also, Schubert’s “Cello Quintet in C” is a highlight of the Jupiter String Quartet’s program on Nov. 20.
Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano will make her series debut alongside her husband, pianist Christopher Cano. She has sung at the Marlboro Music Festival for several years and recently performed at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Bard Festival and the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble in New York City.
The English Concert, conducted by the renowned Harry Bicket, will perform selections from Vivaldi, Telemann and Purcell on Oct. 19. Pianophiles will be thrilled by the return of Yefim Bronfman (March 7), Nareh Arghamanyan (March 18) and Jeremy Denk—who performs twice – hiws Dec. 2 recital followed by his concert Feb. 29 with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The Brooklyn Rider String Quartet will make a follow up visit after debuting at last year’s series.
Individual tickets are $20 each except for the English Concert , ECCO, Emerson String Quartet, Boston Camerata, David Finckel and Wu Han and Yefim Bronfman, which are $25 each. There are season subscriptions available for $75 each and additional sampler series rates. All concerts are held in the College’s Memorial Chapel.
